Carbon Fiber eFoil Components: An OEM Buyer’s Guide to Board Shells, Masts and Wings
An eFoil looks like a hydrofoil with a motor added, but the carbon fiber parts behind it work harder. The board carries a heavy battery, the mast carries power cables, and every part has to keep water away from the electronics. If you are building an eFoil brand, the choice of composite supplier decides how light, stiff and reliable your product is.
This guide explains the main carbon fiber eFoil components, what to look for in each one, and what to send a manufacturer when you ask for a quote.
How eFoil parts differ from regular hydrofoil parts
A standard hydrofoil only has to handle rider loads. An eFoil adds three more jobs:
- Carrying weight: the battery and controller sit inside the board, so the shell must stay stiff and keep its shape under that extra mass.
- Protecting electronics: battery bays, lids and cable exits need flat, accurate sealing surfaces.
- Routing power: the mast must carry motor cables from the board down to the motor pod without weakening the structure.
Because of this, eFoil parts need tighter control of dimensions, wall thickness and surface flatness than many other water sports products.

eFoil board shells
The board shell is the largest and most visible carbon fiber part. It is usually made as a deck half and a bottom half, with a recessed bay for the battery and electronics.
Points to agree with your manufacturer:
- Battery bay geometry: depth, wall angles and corner radii that fit your battery box and lid.
- Sealing faces: flat, smooth flanges where gaskets or lids sit, so the bay can be sealed reliably.
- Inserts and mounting points: mast plate tracks, lid fixings, handles and strap inserts, placed and bonded during layup.
- Layup schedule: extra plies around the bay, mast mount and rails, lighter laminate where loads are low.
- Finish: raw carbon, matte clear coat or painted, plus deck pad and logo areas.
eFoil masts
An eFoil mast connects the board to the motor and foil. It needs high bending and torsional stiffness, and an internal channel for motor cables.
- Cable channel size and exit positions matched to your motor and connectors.
- Top plate and bottom mounting interfaces matched to your board and motor pod.
- Custom lengths and profiles for different rider levels and riding heights.
For more on mast connections, see our guide to hydrofoil mast and fuselage connections.
Front wings, fuselages and stabilizers
eFoil wings are often larger and more stable than wings for prone or wing foiling, because riders want early lift at low speed and a calm ride. Some brands also offer high-aspect wings for longer, more efficient rides.
- Front wings: produced in CNC-machined molds so every wing keeps the same profile.
- Fuselages: carbon fiber bodies that connect mast, front wing and stabilizer, sometimes integrated with the motor pod.
- Stabilizers: rear wings sized for pitch stability at eFoil speeds.
These parts can be supplied individually or as complete foil sets ready for your assembly line.
Materials and process
Most high-quality eFoil components are made from carbon fiber prepreg cured under heat and pressure. Prepreg gives a controlled resin content, low weight and consistent strength from part to part.
- CNC-machined molds for accurate shapes and repeatable dimensions.
- Prepreg layup following an agreed ply schedule for each zone of the part.
- Hot-press curing for dense laminates and good surface finish.
- CNC trimming and drilling for cable exits, inserts and mounting holes.

Quality checks to ask for
- Dimensional checks on battery bays, sealing faces and mounting points.
- Weight records for each part, so you can control the final board weight.
- Visual inspection of the surface, edges and cosmetic areas.
- Fit checks with your battery box, lid, mast plate or motor pod samples before mass production.
What to send for an eFoil quote
- 3D files (STEP or IGES) and 2D drawings with tolerances.
- Which parts you need: board shell, mast, front wing, fuselage, stabilizer or a full set.
- Target weight and stiffness, or a reference product.
- Battery, motor and connector sizes that the parts must fit.
- Finish, colors and logo requirements.
- Quantities for samples, first order and annual volume.
